Vice President - Rene Veloso, (43), has 16 years experience in venture capital, investment banking and the law with a focus on the healthcare sector. Mr. Veloso brings a background in orthopedic research and development, private and public company investment and law to Ivy Capital Partners’ investment team. His investment activities focuses on all aspects of Fund due diligence and portfolio company monitoring. Mr. Veloso was a board observer on Serica Technologies before its sale to Allergan, Inc. (NYSE: AGN) and currently serves as an observer on the Boards of Alacer Biomedical, Pivot Medical and Stanmore Implants. His professional experience includes serving as a Principal for the Hospital for Special Surgery Ventures, the venture arm of the top-ranked US orthopedic hospital in the U.S. At HSS Ventures, Mr. Veloso led all early-stage venture capital investment activities and commercial R&D projects for the hospital. Prior to HSS Ventures, Mr. Veloso was a consultant at the Monitor Group and an associate with Merrill Lynch’s Healthcare Investment banking team. He also co-founded the New York Orthopedic Technology group, a joint venture between the Hospital for Special Surgery, Venrock Associates and New Leaf Ventures, in order to fund promising seed stage orthopedic companies. Mr. Veloso received his B.A. with Honors from Washington University in 1989. He then went on to receive a J.D degree from Northwestern University in 1992 and a M.B.A. from the Ross School of Business in 2000.
